On The Side Of The Road – A Documentary

On The Side Of The RoadA former West Bank settler, Lia Tarachansky, looks at Israelis’ collective amnesia of the fateful events of 1948 when the Palestinians became refugees.  She follows the transformation of Israeli veterans trying to uncover their denial of the war that changed the region forever.  Tarachansky then turns the camera on herself and travels back to her settlement where that erasure gave birth to a new generation, blind and isolated from its surroundings.  She sheds a light on the country’s biggest taboo.

Tarachansky is an Israeli-Russian journalist and filmmaker living in Canada.  She was the correspondent for The Real News Network in Israel/Palestine and her work appears on Al Jazeera, USA Today and 972 Magazine.  Her previous films include Ethnocracy: Israel’s African Refugees (2015), No One Knows How To Make A Revolution (2012) and she is currently developing two new films.
