Juneteenth, celebrating the freeing of the slaves in the US, will be honored at a family-oriented event with music and potluck on Saturday, June 20 from 11:30am to 2:30pm. The annual event will be at Condon Park in Grass Valley.
KVMR broadcaster Jai Hanes will be acknowledged as an African American who has made significant contributions to our community. Atum Islam, formerly Jamal Walker, who was lead singer for the band Elevation, and Kaya will perform.
Also, the short music video Say Their Names will be shown to honor African Americans who have been victims of injustice and police violence.
The event is co-produced by Color Me Human, Creating Communities Beyond Bias, and Earth Justice Ministries.
