Black BoyTarantino Smith presents an adaptation of Richard Wright’s famous autobiography. Black Boy dramatizes Richard Wright’s early life, going from childhood innocence to adulthood in the Jim Crow South.  Audiences are taken on a complex and compelling journey focusing on Richard’s hunger for knowledge and his fight to claim his basic human rights.  Though written in 1943, Black Boy’s themes of racism, injustice and communities paralyzed by fear and misunderstanding still resonate deeply in today’s world.  This play premiered at the Kennedy Center and is touring as part of the Literature To Life national program.   A tour de force, the actor plays upwards of fifteen characters from Richard Wright’s past. Suited for ages 12 through adult.  Highly recommended!
