Urgent: Call Now to Protect Our Right to Protest

Say NO to AB 2664– CA Bill to Jail Protesters–Call Assembly Judiciary Committee Members
Please let members of the CA Assembly Judiciary Committee, chaired by single-payer advocate Ash Kalra(D-San Jose), know that you, along with the ACLU, oppose AB2664, a thinly veiled attempt to suppress protests of synagogues auctioning stolen Palestinian land.
AB2664 is expected to pass out of committee without objection or amendments next Tuesday. Please call the committee members (scroll for script).
Kalra (916) 319-2025 (D-San Jose), Macedo (916) 319-2033 (R-Chico), Bauer-Kahan (916) 319-2016 (D-Orinda), Bryan (916) 319-2055 (D-Los Angeles), Connolly (916) 319-2012 (D-Marin), Dixon (916) 319-2072 (D-Coastal Orange County), Harabedian (916) 319-2041 (D-Pasadena/Altadena), Pacheco (916) 319-2064 (D-Downey/Norwalk), Papan (916) 319-2021 (D-San Mateo), Sanchez (916) 319-2071 (R-Mission Viejo), Stefani (916) 319-2019 (D-Daily City, parts of SF), Chavez Zbur (916) 319-2051 (D-Santa Monica/Hollywood).
Script: I urge _________ to vote NO on AB 2664 when the assembly judiciary committee meets on Tuesday. This bill is an unconstitutional attempt to jail protesters at synagogues and churches hosting IDF soldiers and illegal auctions of stolen Palestinian land. AB2664 would also serve to shield churches accused of sex trafficking and financial fraud. Anyone approaching a congregant (within eight feet of a 100 foot bubble) with a flyer or educational sign could face a $10,000-25,000 fine and up to a year in jail. We already have the FACE Act of 1994, a federal law that prohibits the use of force and threats of force at religious worship. Vote NO on AB 2664.
The bill, authored by Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda), a member of the CA Legislative Jewish Caucus, would make it a crime, punishable of up to $10,000 and up to a year in jail on the first offense, $25,000 and up to a year in jail on the second offense, to approach anyone with a protest flyer or educational sign within eight feet of a 100-foot bubble around a religious institution and its adjacent parking lot or nearby public sidewalk. This could easily restrict speech at nearby private residences located next to a place of worship.
PLEASE SHARE THIS ACTION ALERT.
In solidarity,
Marcy WinogradCo-Chair, Central Coast Antiwar Coalition
