112 Nevada City Hwy Nevada City
3/5/26
Dear friends,
This Wednesday at the 6pm Nevada Joint Union High Sch Board Mtg (112 Nevada City Hwy, Nevada City) a proposal will be presented to form a student committee to help create a safer environment for students. The non-partisan committee would be tasked with “observing campus culture and climate” and serve “as a bridge between the student body and the Board of Trustees to advocate for policies that would lower the temperature across campuses and, hopefully, create a safer, more inclusive environment for students.”
Graham Gardemeyer, an NU student and chair of the Nevada County Youth Commission will present the proposal for what is called STAND or Student Team for Awareness, Neutrality, and District Safety Committee.
Supporters are encouraged to attend the meeting, and emails can be sent in support of it to the NJUHS board before the meeting: board@njuhsd.com.
[1] Support: Creation of STANDS (agenda item N1)
IN ADDITION, a resolution to support “Every Student Belongs” will be reconsidered by the board; a copy of which is attached please support that also. It failed to pass last year out of fear the school system would lose federal funding but this is no longer the concern, so it is expected to pass this Wednesday.
[2] Support: Resolution 23-24/25 Every Student Belongs (agenda item N2)
Attached is the Every Student Belongs Resolution and here is a link to a 1 min 44 second video of Graham explaining the STAND initiative.

If too many people are expected for the meeting room at 112 Nevada City Hwy, the location will change. If that is the case I will try and let you know; the change should be noted on the board’s agenda:

(The agenda says the meeting is at 5pm, but the public part of their meeting starts at 6pm)
Creating Communities Beyond Bias has joined Color Me Human in endorsing the proposal.
Please spread the word.
Thanks.
