Fed UpAs a special follow-up to the Thanksgiving Feast, the Peace & Justice Center presents a film about food and the American diet.

“Fed Up” (2014) shows how the first dietary guidelines issued by the U.S. government 30 years ago overlooked the role of dietary sugar in increasing risks of obesity, diabetes, and associated ill-health outcomes, particularly in children. Since these guidelines effectively condoned unlimited addition of sugar to foods consumed by children, sugar consumption has greatly increased, obesity has skyrocketed, and generations of children have grown up far fatter than their parents.  Produced by film maker, Stephanie Soechtig and TV journalist Katie Couric, this potent expose’ uncovers why-despite media attention, the public’s fascination with appearance, and government policies to combat childhood obesity-generations of American children will now live shorter lives than their parents did.

Come enjoy the film, and stay for the lively discussion to follow. $6.00 – $10.00 suggested donation . Beverages and treats available for purchase.
