“Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook”  (2019)

This documentary examines how, since 2008, right-wing groups have worked with certain states, to make it harder to vote, particularly for minority groups and young people.  The film examines states across the U.S. and the effects of gerrymandering and voter ID laws on voter turnout. Texas is home to one of the most stringent voter ID laws, and was ground zero for a recent decade-long battle over gerrymandering that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Texas also happens to have one of the lowest voter-turnout rates in the country. “Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook” shows on Friday Oct. 25, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Madelyn Helling Library, 980 Helling Way (near the Rood Center), Nevada City.  Come for the film, and stay for the discussion following the film. $10.00 suggested donation includes free hot tea and organic popcorn!  For more information write to  ncpeaceandjustice@gmail.com, or visit the Peace & Justice Center’s website ncpeace.org or visit our Facebook page.
