“Popular concern with policing has long been driven by high-profile tragedies. What’s new is people organizing against more mundane forms of mass criminalization.”  – Alex Vitale, Urban Politics and Policing Professor, Brooklyn College

Recent, national headlines about policing resources, training, and actions have spurned controversy in the perception of law enforcement. What should be expected of those who put their lives on the line to protect and serve, and how are the police relating to citizens to ensure support for their efforts?

At the upcoming League of Women Voters meeting, local law enforcement officials will present about Western Nevada County’s approach to policing, including community partnerships and the structure of the local criminal justice system.  Please join us in welcoming speakers Chief John Foster of the Grass Valley Police Department, Chief Tim Foley and Officer Shane Fransen of the Nevada City Police Department, and a representative of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department.
Ample time will be allowed for written questions.  Seating and refreshments begin at 9:30am.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government.  It influences public policy through education and advocacy.  For more information, please visit www.lwvwnc.org.
